I love this new viral from Cancer Research UK. Clever stuff.

Offliberty is a truly evil site that allows you to download and save files from webpages that their owners would rather you didn’t. I certainly never use it to get DJ sets off Soundcloud and onto my phone – and nor should you.

However, if you were to pop over to Offliberty for a spot of copyright rule-bending, you’d notice that when you click ‘GO’ a little upturned hat slips into the corner of the page which, if you click on it, takes you over to PayPal. That’s a screengrab of it above.

I don’t have anything particularly insightful to say about this strategically. But creatively it has to be the single most charming and engaging online fundraising trick I’ve seen in months.

So in the spirit of Offliberty, I’m going to nick it.

Pumping iron or pounding the treadmill is all very well. But I love the thinking behind the Good Gym – an East London not-for-profit that helps people channel their excess energy into something more meaningful and community-spirited.

On signing up, every Good Gym-bunny is paired with an elderly or housebound ‘coach’ and agrees to run a simple – yet life-enhancing – errand for them each week.

That might be jogging round with their newspaper, taking their dog for a run or volunteering for some vigorous gardening. What matters is that the elderly coach has something to look forward to – and their weekly visitors, the best possible incentive to work out.

I’m almost tempted to dig out my trainers…
